- Bottom Line
The Bottom Line's fight is not yet over. As you may have heard, Bruce
Springsteen and Mel Karmazin made significant contributions, along with
Sirius Satellite Radio, to help save the club.
Unfortunately, The Bottom Line needs more money to negotiate with NYU
and secure a new lease. It is a dire situation and to add insult to
injury, NYU is asking for a 250% rent increase and demanding costly
renovations. The Bottom Line has only managed to raise one third of the
money it needs. It is imperative to get this money for The Bottom Line's
survival.
With the clock ticking down on New York's legendary Bottom Line in
their battle to fend off eviction at the hands of New York University,
the club's favorite son, Bruce Springsteen, has made his feelings
known. Springsteen played 10 shows at The Bottom Line that are widely
credited with launching his career.
"Over the last 30 years, the Bottom Line has made itself a central part
of New York City culture. When I think of the most memorable nights in
my own career, few match the week of shows we did there in 1975. As a
musician, as a citizen, and as one who loves New York City, I truly
hope that a solution can be found that allows the Bottom Line and Allan
and Stanley to continue their important, valuable work for many years
to come."

- Recording !?!? [july]
Before playing Mansion on the Hill Bruce mentioned that there was
going to be some recording. He would appreciate it if the audience
could be quiet during the song.
- Alternate Blood Brothers lyrics [july]
From PhineGrey's review at rmas:
"It is important to note that Blood Brothers had alternate
lyrics. Instead of the whole "I don't know how I feel" part to
close the song, Bruce changed the lyrics to ones which talked
about being on the road with his friends and crossing the
riverside and things like that. This part of the song was sung
by Bruce as he and most of the band held hands at the front of
the stage. Very emotional moment. I think Bruce was getting a
little choked up. At the very end he did say something like,
"We'll be seeing you soon." Hopefully."
According to Backstreets the new lyrics were:
"Now I'm out here on this road
Alone on this road tonight
[I] close my eyes and feel so many
friends around me
In the early evening light
And the miles we have come
And the battles won and lost
Are just so many roads traveled
So many rivers crossed
And I ask God for the strength
And faith in one another
'Cause it's a good night for a ride
'Cross this river to the other side
My blood brothers."
- American Skin / 41 Shots controversy [june]
Patrick J. Lynch, President of the Patrolmen's
Beneveloent Association of the City of New York, has
called for a Springsteen boycott:

A Springsteen defense can be found in the
New York Post.

- Bruce going to Australia?? [june 16]
From the Daily Telegraph (a Sydney newspaper) of June 15:
"Look, we know we here at dino have led you astray in the past
regarding Bruce Springsteen's return to our shores. Like the time we
said he would be here in March, and then he didn't come because he
wanted to record some silly album. Musos - what do ya do with 'em
hey? Well, okay,no more messing around. And remember where you heard
this first - Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band are coming.
That much is definite. When? There's two schools of thought on that.
Negotiations are in progress for the legendary band to be here in
October/November. At this stage, it looks like their shows will be
at the Sydney Entertainment Centre (if it's still standing by then).
If these dates don't come off, then the next window of opportunity
in Springsteen's schedule is March next year (oh God, please don't
make us wait that long, pleeeaaase!!!).

for February, March, April, May and June. The upcoming series of

the E Street Band's first series of Madison Square Garden

Max Weinberg interview in the Boston Globe [december 28 1999]
''It was great fun to be reunited with friends and colleagues, all who have a
common love of the music we were playing,'' Weinberg said. ''It was a great
opportunity to revisit that body of work that we all created, Bruce's music.
It was a full experience.''
It was the first time the Springsteen band appeared together in a full-fledged
tour in a decade. However, Weinberg had to take a leave from his ''Late
Night'' duties. He recently returned,
though he's also expecting to do the
same next year, when Springsteen is planning to continue the US tour.

Rolling Stones Top Pricey 1999 Tour List By Dean Goodman [december 28 1999]
An unusual North American tour by the
Rolling Stones propelled the evergreen rockers to No. 1 on the list of
the year's top-grossing attractions, according to figures released on
Tuesday. Together with major draws like Bruce Springsteen and the E Street
Band, and teen pop combo 'N Sync, the Stones helped propel overall
North American concert ticket sales to a record $1.5 billion in 1999, said trade magazine
Pollstar. The downside is that many consumers paid dearly for the privilege of seeing their favorite
acts in the flesh, and fewer fans decided it was worth the effort, Pollstar said.
The No. 2 tour in 1999 was the reunion trek by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band,
playing their first shows together in more than a decade. They grossed $61.4 million from 54
dates and charged an average ticket price of $60.
